It has been three weeks since our last online rankings update when Russia's Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov catapulted into the top spot in the PocketFives Worldwide Rankings, replacing the previous long-standing number one player in Sweden's Christian "eisenhower1" Jeppsson. However, the past three weeks another Swede "C Darwin2" has been the top dog in the rankings with a considerable lead on the competition with a 485 PLB point lead on the No. 2 player, Sweden's "Ariados".
"C Darwin2", the owner of almost $3.5 million in online tournament cashes according to PocketFives, plays on many sites, with the most cashes occurring on PokerStars under the screenname "C. Darwin2", on Full Tilt under the screenname "C Darwin2", and on Winamax under the screenname "6pogba6".
The past year has been a big one for the Swede, recording two of his three biggest online cashes in his career. In September 2015, he recorded his largest cash in his poker career when he outlasted a 4,764-player field to take first place in the €150 buy-in W Series Million Event on Winamax for €170,900 ($193,195). In late January, he followed this up with his third largest online tournament haul with a runner-up performance in the Super Tuesday on PokerStars for $89,748.
Fellow countrymate "Ariados" emerged into second place in the rankings this week for the first time in his poker career. While most of his cashes are on PokerStars under the screenname "Sasuke234", he plays on just about every major online poker network under a wide variety of other screennames.
The Swede has recorded over $5.2 million in online cashes according to PocketFives. However, unlike "C Darwin2", most of his big cashes took place more than a year ago, including his biggest cash of his career in June 2009 when he banked $330,000 for his first place finish in the ECOOP IV M/E $1,500,000 on the iPoker Network under the screenname "Kaishi". This is important to note, since the PocketFives Worldwide Rankings only takes into account scores in the past year on a sliding basis.
Swedes have been dominating the rankings for awhile, and this week is no different with online poker players from the country claiming the top three spots in the rankings and five of the top eight spots. In addition to "C Darwin2" and "Ariados", "lena900" climbed to third place, Christian "eisenhower1" Jeppsson slipped to fifth place, and Emil "Smeckten" Olsson resides in eighth place.
American poker refugee living in Costa Rica Grayson "grey31" Ramage rounds out the top five sitting in fourth place in the rankings.
The bottom half of the top ten also features some very notable online poker players. First off, Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov, who was the top-ranked player in our last update slipped down to ninth place in the rankings. In addition to Vezhenkov and Olsson, other players in the bottom half of the top ten in the rankings include United Kingdom's Oscar "MendaLerenda" Serradell in sixth place, Dutch poker player living in Malta Steven "SvZff" van Zadelhoff in seventh place, and Denmark's Simon "IgorK" Rønnow Pedersen in 10th place.
