Three Key Ingredients to Winning No-Limit Hold’em Tournaments | PokerNews
No-limit hold'em tournaments not just challenge players to find the most productive how one can play particular hands, additionally they require them constantly to bear in mind the wider perspective imposed by the tournament format. In other words, while it's great to have a fantastic understanding of NLHE fundamentals, in tournaments you usually even have to stay acutely aware of the constantly changing contexts for individual hands.
Popular Twitch streamer Evan "Gripsed" Jarvis identifies three key ingredients that he believes mean you can maintain a dynamic method to maximize your expectation in poker tournaments it doesn't matter what the situation.
Those three ingredients are:
- Look on the big picture
- Know tips on how to play various stack sizes
- Understand the results of the payout structure
In the video below, Jarvis explores each of those three ingredients in additional detail.
Under the heading of the large picture, he explains how even the most productive players only cash a small percentage of tournaments, making the deep run (and large cash) the most important goal upon which to focus. Meanwhile knowing how one can play various stack sizes represents a skill that distinguishes tournaments (somewhat) from cash games — especially deep-stacked games — since stacks are changing so frequently in tournaments. Finally, understanding payout structures could have a big impact on how much risk you're taking on within the effort to make that deep run and finish within the highest-paying spots.
