With a stack of 175,000 in chips, German Jens Lakemeier finished atop the leader board in the third and final starting flight for the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event, but he isn't the player to catch heading into Wednesday's Day 2 in the Southern Hemisphere's most prestigious poker tournament.
That position belongs to James Obst, who bagged up 212,000 during the first flight.
After seven levels of action, the Main Event's final starting flight came to a close in the very early hours of Wednesday morning at Crown Melbourne. It was a day that saw the largest group of competitors take to the felt pushing the total number of entries up over 700 and making this year's event the fourth largest in the tournament's 19-year history. Registration is open through Level 8 on Day 2, so official numbers won't be available until then.
It was also a day that saw poker stars Phil Ivey, John Juanda, and Steve O'Dwyer hit the rail, while the likes of Martin Jacobson, Erik Seidel, and Jason Mercier advanced.
Ivey was eliminated in Level 6 by Australian Tamara Volkoff. With the blinds at 250/500/75, Ivey was all in for his short stack of 2,725 with the . Volkoff had the and held through the board to bust Ivey. Juanda busted in the same level to Stevan Chew, and O'Dwyer went out one level prior when he ran queens into kings.
Of the 337 that entered on Day 1c, approximately 200 survived the day. Those survivors will combine with the ones from Day 1a and Day 1b to form the complete Day 2 field on Wednesday.

Event #15: $1,150 No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha drew 135 entries on Tuesday, creating a $138,375 prize pool that will pay the top 15 players. A minimum cash is worth $2,075 while $35,985 and an LK Boutique Aussie Millions championship ring awaits the winner.
The two-day event will see a champion crowned on Wednesday.
