TCOOP 2016: flexmasterNL masters Event #20, Team Online's Kihara 4th ($82+R 5-Card PLO, 6-Max)
^

Five cards in each player's hand plus five cards on the board added up to another action-filled, fast-paced TCOOP event this Monday morning as Event #20 played out.

The game was 5-card pot-limit Omaha, played six-handed, with an $82 buy-in plus rebuys and an add-on available to fuel things further. A total of 372 took part, with 695 rebuys bought and another 230 add-ons making the prize pool a big $97,275 -- nearly twice the event's $50K guarantee -- and after a little less than three-and-a-half hours it was flexmasterNL of the Netherlands collecting all of the chips and a handsome $18,518.12 prize after a heads-up deal.

Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara of Team PokerStars Pro Online was also there near the end, taking fourth in the event. Here's the story of how flexmasterNL was able to overcome Kihara and everyone else to earn a TCOOP title.

The top 48 finishers made the money in this one, and by the time the tournament reached the break that came at the two-hour mark they were already near the bubble bursting with just 56 players left and Miltos "Miltos14" Kyriakides leading the way.

Also in the mix with a top 10 stack at that point was the aforementioned Kihara, and about 15 minutes later the bubble burst with Kyriakides still on top and Kihara continuing to thrive as well. Then by the two-and-a-half-hour mark just 18 were left and Kihara had moved up into the chip lead.

Not long after that they were down to 12 and the last two tables, with Kihara still in front, Kyriakides having become one of the short stacks, and Christian "CMoosepower" Elgstrøm (15th) Douglas "Dowgh-Santos" Ferreira Souza (17th) among the recent knockouts.

Shyam "G's zee" Srinivasan was the next player out in 12th after getting knocked out in a hand versus Kihara.

struchalina followed in 11th, with Miltos "Miltos14" Kyriakides at last getting felted in 10th after losing the last of his stack to the new chip leader, pappadogg. Like Srinivasan, those two earned $1,361.85 apiece for their finishes.

rickv17 (ninth), anmols (eighth), and wadzon (seventh) were then successively eliminated, and with the three-hour mark approaching the six-handed final table was set with pappadogg still leading and Kihara having become the short stack.

Seat 1: pappadogg (Czech Republic) -- 1,141,682
Seat 2: GiBobH/L (Poland) -- 1,004,242
Seat 3: flexmasterNL (Netherlands) -- 597,648
Seat 4: Team PokerStars Pro Online Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara (Japan) -- 324,172
Seat 5: raconteur (United Kingdom) -- 436,250
Seat 6: CavaloOoOo (Brazil) -- 847,006

Not long after the final table began, the blinds were 25,000/50,000 when GiBobH/L opened for 100,000 from middle position, then raconteur three-bet to 350,000 from the small blind, leaving just 16,250 behind. GiBobH/L reraised back, and raconteur committed those last chips, showing [As][Ac][Kh][Ts][3s] while GiBobH/L had [Ad][Qs][Jd][9s][7s]. The board rolled out [4c][7h][5d][3d][Td], meaning raconteur had two pair (tens and treys) but GiBobH/L had made a diamond flush and raconteur was out in sixth.

About 10 minutes later CavaloOoOo had moved out in front by building a stack of nearly 1.5 million while pappadogg slipped back to just over 500,000. Then with the blinds up to 40,000/80,000, pappadogg opened for 280,000 from the cutoff seat, flexmasterNL called from the small blind, and the flop came [Kc][4s][2s]. At that flexmasterNL pushed out a pot-sized bet, and pappadogg called all in with the 227,510 behind.

flexmasterNL had [Kh][Qs][Tc][8h][5s] for kings and a spade flush draw while pappadogg held [Ad][Kd][Jh][Js][7h] for kings without a draw. The [7d] turn then improved pappadogg to two pair, but the [6s] came on the river to make flexmasterNL's flush and send pappadogg railward in fifth.

Just a few hands later it was Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara opening with a 3x raise to 300,000 from the small blind, leaving just 39,680 behind. Leader CavaloOoOo reraised from the next seat and Kihaha called all in, turning over [Ah][Jd][Jc][9c][8s] to CavaloOoOo's [Kh][Qd][6s][5c][2h]. The board came [9s][3s][Qs], then [Kc], then [8c], giving both players two pair but CavaloOoOo's kings and queens were best. Kihara was done in fourth, his best finish in four TCOOP cashes already this series.

Shortly after that they were in the same level when flexmasterNL min-raised to 250,000 from the button, GiBobH/L called from the big blind, then both checked the [3s][Ts][Td] flop. The turn then brought the [6s] and another check from GiBobH/L, and flexmasterNL took the opening to fire a bet of 202,500. GiBobH/L responded with an all-in check-raise for 613,004 total, and flexmasterNL called.

GiBobH/L had [8s][5h][4c][3c][2s] having turned a spade flush, while flexmasterNL showed [Qs][Qh][Tc][4h][3d] to reveal a flopped full house. The river [8h] was no matter, and GiBobH/L's run ended in third place. That makes two near-misses for GiBobH/L in this TCOOP series after having also finished runner-up in Event #5 ($82 PL Omaha) just a few days ago.

The remaining two players immediately started talking about pausing the tournament for some deal talk, and one hand later proceedings halted with flexmasterNL sitting on a stack of 2,937,386, about 2-to-1 better than CavaloOoOo's 1,413,614. Suggested payouts based on their stacks were soon produced, leaving $1,000 for which to play, and after both players swiftly agreed to the proposed figures play resumed.

A few quick hands later flexmasterNL was up over 3.18 million while CavaloOoOo had slipped to 1.16 million. Then with the blinds at 62,500/125,000, flexmasterNL raised from the button to 325,000, CavaloOoOo three-bet to 975,000, CavaloOoOo reraised again, and CavaloOoOo called with the 188,614 left.

They tabled their last five-card hands in anticipation of what would turn out to be the last five-card board of the tournament:

CavaloOoOo: [Ac][Kc][Kh][9s][2d]
flexmasterNL: [Ad][Ks][Jc][5d][3s]

CavaloOoOo was ahead to start, and after the [2c][Qs][7h] flop and [5h] turn, those kings were still in front. But the river brought the [4h] to complete a wheel for flexmasterNL and it was all over -- flexmasterNL had won.

Congratulations to flexmasterNL for blitzing through the Event #20 field to win a TCOOP title and an $18,528.12 first prize, adding another nice cash after having finished 12th in Event #14 ($215 NL Omaha H/L) just yesterday. And kudos as well to CavaloOoOo for making it to the heads-up deal and being able to collect a cool $16K-plus cash.
