WSOP 2016: Jason Mercier wins Player of the YearNO Deposit bonus $43

Just attempt to imagine how he does it.

Imagine how Jason Mercier does what he does. Imagine how he sits down and easily decides to be Jason Mercier for a complete summer on the World Series of Poker.

What does that mean?

It means eleven in-the-money finishes. It mean two (ahem, two more) WSOP gold bracelets. It means asking the affection of his life to marry him.

And it also means winning the sector Series of Poker Player of the Year award.

That's what it means to be Jason Mercier.

In total, Mercier won just wanting $1 million in tournament prizes (and no small amount for his bracelet bets). Included among his winnings were bracelets within the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship and $10,000 HORSE Championship. Those marked Mercier's fourth and fifth bracelets. Additionally they all but guaranteed him WSOP Player of the Year.

It was not a lock, however. Paul Volpe may have overtaken Mercier if he had managed to move deeper than his 29th place finish by and large Event. Once Volpe busted, however, there has been no person to take the title clear of Mercier.

Since starting his career on the WSOP eight years ago, Mercier has cashed in 57 events and won greater than $4.8 million just on the Rio. While an excellent feat, it barely begins to give an explanation for his lifetime $17 million in poker winnings.

How do you explain it?

You don't. You just accept that Jason Mercier is a phenomenon. A walking, talking, laughing, soon-to-be married poker phenomenon the likes of which we can't see anything like ever again. And now he's the WSOP Player of the Year.

Now, just imagine what he's going to do next.
