A long battle have been raging and features has been drawn within the sand in regards to the legality of poker, and whether the sport is certainly one of luck or skill. That question have been asked in court rooms all around the US, but as of yet the united states Supreme Court has not weighed in at the subject.
On Friday, poker enthusiasts and opponents alike gets their answer to whether the Supreme Court will hear a case that may be being appealed within the state of latest York. The case involves a bicycle shop owner who was holding a poker game amongst friends behind his bike shop.
Authorities arrested the person and charged him with operating an illegal gambling operation. The owner, who was convicted, is appealing his case to the Supreme Court, asserting that poker shouldn't be illegal as it is a game of skill.
There is precedent around the US on each side of the problem. Several courts have ruled that poker is a game of skill, while others have ruled there's an excessive amount of chance within the game for it to be considered a game of skill. Each state has their very own laws regarding home poker games.
In Virginia, home games are legal. In Georgia, the similar games are illegal. How the government sees poker is a key to states which can be trying to move forward and make allowance home games among friends.
If the Supreme Court decides Friday to take the case, it is going to function a mini-victory for individuals who want the law clearly defined. A Supreme Court ruling on whether poker is a game of skill or luck go a ways in shaping the way forward for the poker industry within the US.
Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey have recently taken the sport of poker to the following level, regulating online casinos. Over 100,000 poker players have already signed up for accounts at New Jersey online poker sites that host games played for real money.
