Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins made probably the most of team workouts this week being voluntary by deciding to make use of the time to get in some poker at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in North Carolina.
The 22-year-old posted a photograph of him cashing out $6,500 worth of poker chips to his Facebook page on Tuesday. In keeping with ESPN, Watkins was in Greenville, South Carolina for a football camp Sunday with former Clemson teammate Tajh Boyd.
In a later Facebook post, Watkins and his friend said they pulled an all-nighter on the casino, getting there within the evening and leaving at 8 a.m. the next day.
Because the workouts were voluntary, it doesn’t appear Watkins might be disciplined for playing life. The NFL is notorious for its anti-gambling stance. In 2015, the league told several players at the Miami Dolphins that they couldn’t take part in a $94 buy-in poker tournament in Florida.
