EPT11 Barcelona: Oliver Price's live heater looks set to continue

Deciding to move to Deauville for the EPT poker festival in January was a very simple decision for Oliver Price. Despite being a cash game player by day he was heading there to play the France Poker Series Main Event - a €1,000 buy-in tournament that finished the day the EPT Main Event started.

He wasn't even sure that he was going to play the primary Event, but after some positive persuasion from Dominik Nitsche, who was convinced Price had a large edge over the field, the 23-year-old took the plunge.

It turned out to be an even decision as Price went directly to finish third, earning a career high cash of €271,200. Since then Price has added result after result to his résumé, with an outright win in a £1,000 event within the UK, a deep run within the $10,000 WPT LA Poker Classic, a fourth place finish at a €2,000 side-event at EPT San Remo and a fifth place finish in a $5,000 no-limit hold'em event on the WSOP.

And if that wasn't enough, today he finds himself because the biggest stack at the EPTLive feature table, in prime position to chip up across the bubble.

"It's been good," Price says, clear at the undeniable fact that Deauville was a springboard to the success that has come because it". always will provide you with much more confidence when you've done it before, you understand how doable it's.

"Also after all it took a little bit bankroll pressure off, the money allowed me to travel a bit of more and play these bigger events...Whereas before it was more of a shot taking process that I needed to be fairly careful with, just playing probably the most softer ones like Deauville as an example. That tournament unfolded numerous doors."

And while many believe just one player is ever happy on the end of a poker tournament - the winner - there have been no less than two ecstatic players on the conclusion of EPT Deauville.

"I was actually extremely proud of third place in Deauville. It was roughly my goal going into it to ladder as much as the highest three," Price says. "I did play extremely tight throughout that final table, so yeah to get third that was my aim. When I got within the top three I planned on opening up, which I did, which I USED TO BE happy with. I did fold some hands in marginal spots which I WOULD NOT usually do."

It's said that you simply won't win a tournament if you happen to don't think you'll be able to and that certainly resonates with Price.

"I went into future tournaments with the easiest mindset coming off the Deauville result. It allowed me to play with none roughly pressure."

Of the entire results that experience come after Deauville, it is the win in an event in London that Price believes is the most efficient.

"It's always nice to win a tournament, it is a very pure feeling. So I mean on the time that felt the most productive simply because it was an outright win, when it comes to what I'm most pleased with I AM NOT quite sure yet, I HAVE NOT really considered it."

Price gets some TV time today

Today Price finds himself at the TV feature table yet again playing under the brilliant lights, but he is taking all of it in his stride.

"I've been on a TV table a couple of times," he says. "Deauville wasn't my first time on a feature table as I USED TO BE at the TV table through the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, that was my first time. It's only one of these things, the primary time you get somewhat nervous or anxious, but now it feels pretty natural."

And he's aware just how much of a bonus it's to have a large stack at the bubble although you have got Mike McDonald in your immediate left.

Price says: "Having Mike on my left hasn't been an issue as of yet, but I'm sure it will likely be at certain points. It's usually a dream to have a large stack at the bubble, you cannot really ask for far greater than that."

And Price believes that despite the EPT being stuffed with good players it is easy to abuse the bubble.

"Even in a tournament like this you'll be able to 100 per cent put pressure on throughout the bubble period," Price says. "Especially at the short stacks, they should cash. It is very important that they cash and that is even the experienced good players. They cannot just be turning down a min-cash of €8,500. They still must avoid marginal spots across the bubble."

With his stack, there should not be too a lot of them for Price.
